Recently, something wonderful happened. While I was opening the refrigerator door, I glanced to my right and noticed a picture on my mother's computer screen. It lingered briefly on the monitor - just long enough for me to think, "Who is that hottie?!?"
And then I realized who it was.
My ex-husband.
(Why it's still there is a whole other story, but I'm not gonna go there.)
All I could do was throw my head back and laugh. Chortle, actually.
He had become unrecognizable to me.
In the picture he was shirtless and tan. He had tight abs and flashed a huge smile. The letters R-H-E-A were painted down his arm (again, another story that I'm not gonna touch!).
And I felt nothing but nothing towards him.
WHAT?? When did this happen? When did all the pain up and disappear?
I've heard that it takes roughly half as long as the relationship lasted to "get over" someone. But, that's just an estimate. Luckily, for me, it hasn't been nearly that long.
The sting that was once there is gone. I don't remember when or how it left - but it did. I never woke up one day and said, "Wow. I'm all healed." Yet, I realize now that I am.
And everyone said I would, but I didn't believe them.
Everyone was right.
So, I hopped on over to my computer, turned up
What Light by Wilco, danced around the island in the kitchen, and said a quiet little thank you to the man upstairs.
